Today I will write a critique for you.

Two remarks beforehand. First, I'm not a painter myself, it would be ideal to get a critique by a painter. Second, to avoid any misunderstandings between us, please consider how I distribute stars : 3 is good, 4 is really really good, and 5 is world-class art. I will very rarely give a 5 anywhere.

As this work is a study and not a finished work, I will treat it as such and not look for perfection.

You have a fine grip on the leave shapes - they look very pleasant and life-like. The rose bud itself is less perfect executed I feel (I know how difficult it is to draw or paint rose buds !) The outer rose petals are looking fine, but I find your grip on the inner rose petals is a bit less sharp and they become somewhat shapeless and vague.

I find the colours pretty ! This shows itself in the stem, where you've drawn almost no lines, you painted it in colour. The stem looks fine and convincing. The most perfect colour job I find in the fourth stem leaf (the biggest one).

Perspective and position of the rose as a "whole" on the table is convincing, I find.

I haven't accored you much stars on vision, impact and originality. The reason is that - to me - this study is not something new but a "classic" in painting. This was your meaning, of course !
